Q. State the goals of Distributed System. (December 2016) (10 Marks)
Ans - Following are the goals of distributed system:
- Resource sharing: sharing hardware, software, and data
- Openness: openness of main interface of the system, scalability of the current system
- Concurrency: concurrent execution of the processes, high performance, optimum rate of price and performance
- Fault tolerance: ability to tolerate the fault of system units, availability (using potential redundancy to overcome the system fault).
- Transparency: a distributed system can be looked as one computer (access transparency, position transparency, parallel transparency,....)
- Scalability: can solve larger problems without larger computers
- Openness and heterogeneity: applications and data may be difficult to relocate and reconfigure
